Noble Presets | The Best Film Inspired Preset on The Market

Hi Friends! I know this is a strange post to see on my website, but I thought it would be fun to start reintroducing some behind the scenes/business posts back on my site. As most of you know, I am a hybrid photographer. Every wedding and portrait session that you have seen on my site for the past few years has been shot on my Pentax 645nii, Nikon F6 35mm and various Nikon digital bodies. While I love the look of film, I am also in love with having an iron clad backup process to keep my images safe. Having redundant copies of the important moments I capture on both digital and film formats helps me sleep a little better at night. Now if only my 6 month old can help me out :)

Being a hybrid photographer comes with a bit more work, one of the largest being in the film and digital image color matching area. I have used MANY presets on the market and recently fell deep in love with Noble Presets, which are available for use in Adobe Camera RAW and Lightroom. Every other preset I have used, I had difficulties with the skin tones, blues, oranges and greens. I was going into the color sliders for EVERY image and making changes. When I started using Noble, my editing life got a whole lot easier. It is the closest match to Fuji 400H that I have seen on the market. The skin tones are flattering just like film and the greens and blues are perfect! When matching my Fuji 400H film, it is the easiest to work with. I only have to make modifications to white balance and the tone sliders!

Primarily shooting in the New York and New England area means that I have to deal with some tricky lighting conditions. I often have to shoot Portra 400 rated at 800 and ask my lab to push +1. Noble has been very easy to tweak to match this as well. Yes, I do have to make some small modifications to the color slider for these specific images, but I have already saved that as my own preset to help. It is also 10 times easier to tweak than any other preset I have used.

Just because you aren't a hybrid photographer doesn't mean you can't use Noble. It is a great option for those that do not shoot film but want a film look, or just one that has natural, timeless tones. Below you can find MANY examples of comparison images between film and digital. I am breaking it out into two sections of images. One set where I used Noble during my normal editing process of matching film and digital images. The second set is when I first tried Noble on already delivered images without touching the film images I already delivered to my client. Leave a comment below with any questions. Below are some sample images that were done when matching digital and film images during my normal editing process. Just a reminder, I like my pushed film (Portra 400 rated at 800 and pushed one at the lab) processed on Noritsu and my Fuji 400H rated at 200 on Frontier. My lab loves me and my complicated lighting situations :)

This next set of images are from my VERY first time using the Noble Signature Preset in Lightroom on some test images and making just a couple of tweaks to Tone and White Balance. Not a lot of time was spent on these, as I was just testing it out to do a quick comparison to my already delivered images.
